Privacy policy
Last updated 30 October 2026
Sin Bin is a free footy trivia party game played in your web browser at sinbin.lol (and in our apps if you use those). This policy explains what information the game handles, why, who can see it and what you can do about it. We have kept it in plain English. If anything is unclear, email us at ommybase@gmail.com.
Sin Bin is run by an independent developer in Queensland, Australia ("we", "us"). We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and we have written this policy so it also makes sense if you play from elsewhere.
The short version
- You never make an account. We don't ask for your email, phone number, real name, location or contacts.
- To run a game we use the name you type in, an anonymous ID for your device, and whatever you write, draw and vote during the game.
- The other players in your room see your name, answers, drawings and scores. That is the game.
- We don't sell your information, show ads, or use tracking or advertising cookies.
- Game data is stored with Google Firebase, and we delete old rooms within 30 days.
What we collect
Things you give us
- Your player name. Whatever you type when you host or join. It doesn't need to be your real name, and we suggest a nickname.
- What you do in a game. Fake answers, banter answers, team names, drawings (jerseys and logos), votes, reports, bets in Golden Point and your scores.
- Emails you send us. If you contact us, we get your email address and whatever you write.
Things collected automatically
- An anonymous ID. When you first play, Firebase Authentication gives your browser or device a random ID. It isn't linked to your name, email or any other account. It lets the game know which player you are, so you can rejoin a room if your phone drops out.
- Room and game records. The room code, who is in it, who is hosting, the game's progress, times, and the app version.
- Technical information. Like any website, our hosting and database providers process your IP address, browser and device type, and request times in order to deliver the site, keep it secure and stop abuse. We don't use this to identify you.
- Information kept on your own device. Your browser or phone remembers your player name, the last room you were in (so we can offer "Rejoin") and a version flag. This stays on your device and you can clear it at any time by clearing site data or reinstalling the app.
Things we don't collect
We don't collect your email (unless you email us), phone number, location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera, payment details, or advertising identifiers. We don't run analytics or advertising tools, and we don't use cookies to track you across other sites.
Why we use it
- To run games: create rooms, let people join, show questions, collect answers and votes, keep score and show results.
- To let a host pause a match at half time and resume it later.
- To keep the game working and fair: fixing bugs, preventing cheating and stopping misuse.
- To reply to you if you contact us.
We don't use your information for marketing, profiling or automated decisions about you.
Who can see it
- Other players in your room. They see your player name, your answers, team names, drawings, votes when results are revealed, reports, and your scores. Anyone with your room code can join while the room is in its lobby, so only share codes with people you want to play with.
- Our service providers. We use Google's Firebase services (Hosting, Authentication and Realtime Database) to run Sin Bin. Google processes the information on our behalf under its own terms and security controls.
- If the law requires it. We may disclose information if required by law, or where needed to protect someone's safety or the security of the game.
We don't sell, rent or trade personal information.
Where it's stored
Game data is stored in Google's Realtime Database in Singapore. Hosting and authentication are provided by Google and may involve servers in other countries, including the United States. By playing, your information may be transferred to and stored in those countries. We use a reputable provider with strong security commitments to protect it.
How long we keep it
- When the host closes a room, its game data is removed.
- Rooms that are left open, and saved half-time matches, are deleted within 30 days of being created.
- The anonymous ID stays on your device until you clear the site data or uninstall the app.
- Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to deal with them.
Keeping it secure
Connections to Sin Bin are encrypted (HTTPS). Database rules limit who can change what: only the host can run a room, and each player can only submit their own answers. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't type personal or sensitive information into answers, names or drawings.
Children
Sin Bin is made for teenagers and adults. It is not directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. Some jokes reference footy culture, including the pub and a beer after the game. If you're under 18, please play with a parent or guardian's OK. If you think a child under 13 has given us personal information, email us and we'll delete it.
Links to other sites
Some screens link to other websites, for example a club's Wikipedia page to compare a logo. Those sites have their own privacy policies. We don't share your information with them; they only see that you visited, like any link you tap.
Your choices and rights
- Access and correction. You can ask what information we hold about you and ask us to correct it.
- Deletion. You can ask us to delete your game data at any time. Because there are no accounts, tell us the room code, your player name and roughly when you played, so we can find it.
- Stay anonymous. You can play under any nickname. You can clear your anonymous ID by clearing your browser's site data.
We'll respond within 30 days. If you're in the European Union or United Kingdom, you also have rights under the GDPR, including to object to processing and to complain to your local data protection authority; the legal basis for our processing is our legitimate interest in running the game you've chosen to play.
Complaints
If you have a concern about how we handle your information, email us first at ommybase@gmail.com and we'll try to sort it out. If you're not happy with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Sin Bin handles information, for example by adding accounts, analytics or advertising, we will update this page and change the date at the top before the change takes effect. Significant changes will also be flagged in the game.
